Skills for Health is the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the UK health sector. Our purpose is to help the whole sector – including the NHS, independent and voluntary organisations - develop solutions that deliver a skilled and flexible UK workforce in order to improve health and healthcare.
Skills for Health’s specific aims are to:
- Develop and manage national workforce competences
- Profile the UK workforce with appropriate Labour Market intelligence/information
- Improve workforce skills .
- Influence education and training supply
- Work with our partners
Skills for Health actively supports the development of easily accessible careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) so that individuals entering the workforce - and those already working in the sector - are able to make informed choices about learning and career development to help them achieve their full potential. Skills for Health does not offer careers IAG as a service to individuals, but works to support those delivering IAG, by working in partnership to improve information and access. An example of this is the Health Learning and Skills advice line (08000 150 850) developed in partnership with NHS Careers and Careers Advice.
