Information, Advice and Guidance

Many employers have raised concerns with their Sector Skills Council that potential entrants (and even those already working in the sector) don't have an accurate understanding of the jobs available in the sector, the skills needed to work in them, or the qualifications that can drive career progress.

In response, all 25 Sector Skills Councils have joined together to take part in an Information Advice and Guidance Initiative.  The aim of the initiative is to provide accurate information on jobs and skills to careers bodies, individual careers practitioners and those who give informal careers advice.

Sector Skills Councils were set up over a period of time.  This means that each SSC is in a different stage of development in terms of its information, advice and guidance "offer" to you.  However, we are all working towards what we call the "core offer".  This will be a common standard of information and activity that you will be able to expect from ALL Sector Skills Councils.  We hope that the core offer will be in place by the end of 2008.
